The Lab Medicine Program at University Health Network (UHN) is delighted to introduce the talented individuals who have joined our program as fellows for the period of July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. These remarkable professionals bring their unique backgrounds, skills, and passion to contribute to our commitment to excellence in laboratory medicine.

Genitourinary (GU) Pathology:

Sophie Prendergast

My name is Sophie and I have completed my pathology training in Ireland. My hobbies include music, the outdoors, travel and moving to new cities! I am moving to Canada with my husband, and we can’t wait to experience Toronto. Looking forward to meeting you all soon. 


Rosalyne Choiniere

My name is Roselyne Choiniere. I am born and raised in Canada. I studied at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec for my medical degree, master’s degree and residency in anatomical pathology. My hobbies are skiing, biking, yoga and pottery. Coming to Toronto, I am looking forward to discovering the culture scene, especially the opera for which I registered for the season. I am doing my fellowship in genitourinary pathology and research that I will follow up with a second year in Rotterdam, Netherlands. I hope we will get a chance to get to know each other in the next months.

Gynecological Pathology:

Roman Zyla

My name is Roman Zyla, and I was born and raised in Toronto. I have completed all of my post-secondary education and training at the University of Toronto, and am looking forward to spending my 14th consecutive year at U of T, this time as a Fellow in Gynecological Pathology. Outside of work, I enjoy reading books and spending time with my wife and our two children. I am looking forward to all of the educational opportunities that a Fellowship at the University Health Network has to offer.

Cytopathology:

Simon Guertin

I am Simon Guertin from Montreal, Québec. I enjoy rollerblading, tennis, cross-country skiing, astrophysics, astronomy, history and knowledge!

Head & Neck Pathology:

Dhuha Al-Sajee

Hello. My name is Dhuha Al-Sajee. I am a Canadian citizen and born in Baghdad, Iraq. I like spending time with my family, swimming, running and hiking. I love astronomy and the ocean and aquatic animals and if I were not a medical doctor, I would have pursued a career in astronomy or marine biology.

Liver Pathology:

David Dodington

I was born and raised in Niagara Falls Canada. I have been in Toronto now for over a decade where I attended medical school and pathology residency. My hobbies include baking, fitness, and music. Although I love traveling, the only continent I have been able to visit outside of North America so far is Africa. This year, however, I will be adding two more continents to that list. 

Dermatopathology:

Calvin Tseng

I am a general pathology resident who completed residency at the University of Calgary. While I was born in Canada, I lived in Taiwan during my childhood. My main hobby is wall-climbing. I’m pursuing a fellowship in dermatopathology and look forward to meeting the other trainees!

Mehmet Kefeli

My name is Mehmet Kefeli. I am from Turkiye. I have completed my anatomical pathology residency training at Ondokuz Mayıs University. I am a hard worker, open-minded and energetic person. After graduating, I have always tried to improve myself and be part of research projects, and I enjoy it a lot. Among my hobbies are cooking, listening to music, and doing sports such as tennis, swimming, and long-way cycling. Particularly, I am really fond of playing tennis, and I attended some national tournaments. I also like to travel, get to know different cultures and make new friends in different countries.

I look forward to meeting all of you and awaiting the start of my fellowship!

Hematopathology:

Tulasi Geever

I am Tulasi Geevar from India. After completing my post-graduation in Pathology in 2015, I joined the Department of Clinical Pathology at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. I have a special interest in haemostasis which both intrigues and fascinates me. My hobbies include reading, travelling, cooking, and swimming. I am coming to Toronto on my study leave to do a fellowship in Hematopathology with my husband and two kids aged 4 and 6 years old. As much as I am excited about this fellowship, I am also anxious how we as a family would settle into a new country. I am looking forward to meeting you all in person.

Mireille Marie Florence Boivin

Bonjour, hello!

I’m Mireille, a proud Franco-Albertan. I just finished my residency in Sherbrooke. Before that, I did undergrad and med school in Ottawa.

I’m very excited to be joining the team at UHN and expanding my knowledge with all of you.When I’m not at work, I like to crochet or knit, watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, and bike.

Breast Pathology:

Safiyh Soliman Sarhan Aljohani

I was born and raised in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. I completed a residency training in Anatomical Pathology at King Saud University 2021. When it comes to hobbies, I enjoy hiking and cooking. I’m not good in any of these activities; I just enjoy them. My interests also include travelling and reading. I live in Toronto with my son and daughter. I still don’t have any superpowers, hence the fellowship training in breast pathology. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you in the following months.

Cardiovascular Pathology:

Moayad Alqazlan

I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. I completed a residency training in Anatomical Pathology at King Faisal Hospital and research center in Riyadh. When it comes to hobbies, I enjoy Crossfit training. My interests also include listening to and attending concerts for alternative rock music, gymnastics and reading art history. An interesting fact about me is that I am lymphoma free since 2006. I got lymphoma and relapsed as a kid, which made me want to be a pathologist. Now I’m a fellow at UHN! Can’t wait to meet you all!

Assem Alrumeh

My name is Assem al Rumeh. I graduated from King Saud University for health science in 2014. Since then, I have completed anatomical pathology residency program at military hospital in 2020 (which is joint program with other tertiary hospitals). Currently, I’m working at Prince Sultan Military Medical City as consultant doctor. I received an award during my training as the best senior resident in 2019. After 2 years, I will be qualified with University of Toronto neuropathology fellowship certificate. I will improve our neuropathology pathology department.
