After more than 37 years of dedicated and passionate service, Jean Pastuszok is retiring in June of this year.
Jean is currently an MLT in the Histocompatibility Laboratory but has held many posts over the years. She graduated from the Toronto Institute of Medical Technology (TIMT) in 1977 as a Certified Lab Assistant. She then worked at Mount Sinai Hospital and SickKids for a few years before completing her MLT training at The Michener Institute. Her first job as an MLT was in the Biochemistry Department at TGH in 1984. Eager for a new challenge, Jean volunteered for re-assignment to the newly created Rapid Response Laboratory (formerly the CVOR Lab) at UHN.
You only need to know Jean for a short time to recognize that she is a lifelong learner, always looking for new ways to make a difference. In 2000, she further expanded her skill set by joining the Histocompatibility Laboratory. Jean says that she has truly appreciated the satisfaction she feels from solving the many challenges and problems faced during a shift (or on call), while working both as an integral member of the team and independently. Jean has found great joy in knowing that the work of the team has such a direct impact on patient care. The lifelong friendships she has developed in LMP are a true testament to the wonderful person that she is. We will miss you SO much, Jean!! (We will also miss your colour-coding that keeps us so well organized!!)
