Dr. Vathany Kulasingam receives CSCC Award for Research Excellence

Dr. Vathany Kulasingam, Deputy Head of Clinical Biochemistry, LMP, has been awarded the 2019 Award for Research Excellence by the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to advance research in clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine.

Dr. Vathany Kulasingam is awarded the 2019 CSCC Award for Research Excellence.

Dr. Vathany Kulasingam is currently the Deputy Head Clinical Biochemist at University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario, Canada and an Associate Professor of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto.

She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry and serves on several journal editorial boards. Dr. Kulasingam’s research has focused on applications of mass spectrometry to discover and evaluate cancer biomarkers and she has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including research papers, reviews, book chapters and letters. She has successful applied to research grants through CIHR, including two catalyst grants which she currently holds. As an invited speaker she has presented her research across Canada and internationally. Dr. Kulasingam and her team have developed novel approaches to using tandem mass spectrometry to evaluate proteome and metabolome subsets in various disease states to provide new tools for laboratory diagnostics. Dr. Kulasingam has supervised two PhD students and numerous clinical chemistry post-doctoral fellows and undergraduate students involved in research.
