Last Saturday, the fourth annual Surgical Pathology Education Day took place thanks to the LMP Surgical Pathology PA team, with co-leads Martin Grealish and Emmanuelle Chung, Pathologists’ Assistants. Over 100 attendees made up of registrants, volunteers and presenters gathered at UHN to share knowledge and learn in a special blend of conference style lectures and in-lab presentations.
This year the theme was flow, with presenters from Sinai Health System, The Hospital For Sick Children, and UHN covering a range of topics including Flow Cytometry, Imaging in Forensic Pathology, Hematopathology, and beyond (see the full list of speakers and topics here).
Attendees spanned from Alberta to Ottawa, with a couple even flying in just for the event.
“It’s not about what you know,” says Emmanuelle, Pathologists’ Assistant. “It’s about what’s on the horizon.”
The day presents a unique opportunity to develop networks, fill a niche educational need for those in surgical pathology and surrounding fields, and continue to support and fuel more educational opportunities for PAs at UHN.
“Education is all around us,” says Martin, Pathologists’ Assistant, “all you need to do is package it. [This event] engages the team, and brings us all closer together.”
Congratulations to all those involved for creating an exceptional educational opportunity, as well as those volunteers who without which the event would not be possible!
