This week, Dr. Ivan Blasutig, Clinical Biochemist and Medical Staff Researcher was ‘infected’ by the LMP Q&A BUG. The nomination came from our previous Q&A BUG ‘victim,’ Nayana Sondi. Check out Nayana’s photo Q&A, HERE.
As a clinical biochemist for the Laboratory Medicine Program, Dr. Blasutig oversees the immunology and immunoassay testing done in the core laboratory at Toronto General Hospital, as well as the rapid response work that takes place at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. He ensures high quality, accurate testing for patients with possible immune system disorders, including testing for immunodeficiency and autoimmunity.
To ensure UHN patients are receiving optimal testing, Dr. Blasutig will liaise with physicians and help determine the most effective utilization of tests for each patient. He will present the pros and cons of specific testing and ultimately provide the foundation for diagnosis and future treatment options. He also helps determine the importance of bringing new types of biochemistry testing to LMP labs.
In addition to his work at UHN, Dr. Blasutig oversees aspects of the biochemistry testing at LMP partner sites Weenabayko Area Health Authority and Sault Area Hospital.
