This week, Martia Amenta, manager of specimen management, was ‘infected’ by the LMP Q&A BUG. The nomination came from our previous Q&A BUG ‘victim,’ Martin Grealish. Check out Martin’s photo Q&A, HERE.
In addition to Maria’s role as manager of specimen management, she is also manager of the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) laboratory, and LMP site manager at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Maria manages the operations across all of her respective areas, and works collaboratively with other areas of the hospital to facilitate the best possible patient care.
Entailed in Maria’s responsibilities are the operations of UHN Blood Lab Collection Centres, and this year was particularly successful with renovations being made to the Princess Margaret Collection Centre. The space was previously crowded, and patient’s could be waiting for hours during peak times of the day, but Maria and a steering committee sanctioned changes that have provided improved patient wait times, capacity, and care.
As of April 1, 2015, the Princess Margaret Blood Lab Collection Centre is serving a weekly average of 80- per cent of patients in 25 minutes or less. For more on the changes to Princess Margaret’s Blood Lab Collection Centre, check out our story on UHN News.
Maria has also been very involved in UHN’s recent safety initiatives, and as LMP site lead at Princess Margaret she attends daily safety huddles where all possible safety concerns are addressed in advance at the start of each day.
