Even as work, school, and volunteering crowd their schedules, it doesn’t stop the BSP team from cycling the full distance of 75km for this year’s Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart organized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, taking place on Sunday May 31, 2015.

Nicholas Pasquale and Zahra Maamir, both from the BioSpecimens Sciences Program (BSP), train on weekends together for the upcoming ride and the funds they raise will directly support research into cardiovascular disease, including clinical trials and independent research and large-scale studies carried out through the Peter Munk Cardiac Center.

“It is amazing that I’m part of the biggerpicture in terms of funding for the many studies and clinical trials that I’ve currently been working on” said Nicholas Pasquale, who helps process and track some of the many clinical trials that are carried out through BioSpecimen Sciences Program

“It is a pleasure to ride and fundraise for heart disease, as I have had the opportunity to witness the massive impact of heart disease first hand” says Zahra Maamir, who assists with cardiac banking on behalf of the BioSpecimen Sciences Program.

Bring It On

As their team chose to do the 75km ride, there are also 25km and 50km options available. The BSP team plans on posting before and after pictures to humorously show supporters their journey.

“Biking on behalf of UHN and department is a great honor, and to do so in the presence of 10,000 other bikers with the same goal is amazing,” they added.

So far they have raised just over $1300 with this year’s goal set to $2000, they can’t do it without your help!
